news revision

Explain two ways that newspapers are funded.
One way in which they make money is through asking people for donations through online pop ups and inside real newspapers to make people donate to the newspapers to allow the newspapers to carry on. Another way in which they are funded is by advertising space in the newspapers which is sold to other companies, campaigns and advertisers.

"How does the observer reflect its values and beliefs?" Discuss with reference to media language.

  • In alignment with the labour party
  • Social democrat (they care about people)
  • Value art and culture
  • Value staying in Europe
  • Value multi cultural society
  • They don't like sensational reporters

music revision 2

Starter questions-
1. What is the target audience for Radio 1?
15-35 year olds, male and female, mainstream audience, C1-E, British

2. Why did they launch Live Lounge?
They launched it because more people were starting to stream music and not listen to music on the                          radio so they decided to make their own website where people can stream and download music and                  listen to the radio.

3. What song did Harry Styles cover and who was it by?
     The chain by Fleetwood Mac

4. What are the five reasons it applies to different audience groups?
     Harry Styles- young girls
     Fleetwood mac- older audience
American and British audience from Fleetwood Mac and Harry Styles
The chain was in guardians of the galaxy
The chain was the theme tune for Formula 1- Male audience

Task 2:
Explain media language has been used differently to represent/attract the target audience-

Within the two magazine covers which are Top of the Pops and Mojo, they have so many differences.     Within top of the pops the colour palette is very much colourful with pinks, whites, purples, reds and a little black showing us that they're target audience is female teenagers aged 10-16, within the mainstream audience therefore its target class is C-E within a British ethnicity. Whereas the colour palette for Mojo is white, black, grey and red which are all very neutral colours apart from the red showing us how the target audience is for older males aged 30-50, rock, soul and older band audience of a British ethnicity.
The masthead for Top of the Pops if pink, big, bold and glittery, the magazine has added a glitter effect onto the masthead to make it stand out more and to make the target audience attracted to it more. Within the 'S' at the end of 'Pops' is swirled to add more of an effect to the masthead as well as putting 'of the' in a circle full of glitter making girls want to pick it up and see whats going on within the magazine. However the masthead within Mojo is bold although its white with a back shadow effect behind the letters making them stand out on the white background. Through the letters 'ojo' in italics it has the writing 'the music magazine' in back, this masthead makes the magazine look clean and slick making the target audience want to pick it up because it would appeal to the older eye as there is not lots of colours going on and the magazine itself doesn't look too busy.
The main image for Top of the Pops is a major pop star, Jessie J, the image is a medium close up at eye level making the audience feel like she's looking at you and only you, her facial expressions are happy looking. As well as the main image theres minor images which are of other pop stars both male and female, all these images look happy and all together they have 6 minor images to give the audience more of an idea of about what the magazine is

newspapers: online case studies

Advantages of online newspapers-

  • free
  • saving paper/saving the environment
  • quick and updated news

Disadvantages of online newspapers-

  • difficult to read
  • fake news
  • require internet connection
  • frustrating advertisements
The Guardian/The observer annotation-
The colour pallet is a mixture of blue, white, red, yellow and an orange colour. All these colours mixed together create a very sophisticated and formal approach towards their target audience because the colours aren't loud and excessive they're low-key and subtle.
Through the colour pallet you can see their target audience is more of a sophisticated audience aged 18+.
The pictures they use aren't happy and upbeat looking they have more of a serious tone to it. Also the text changes in size and colour depending on how important the phrase/word is. The important words and phrases are in a different colour to white to make them stand out to the audience.
The layout is easy to use and see because their target audience is an older age.

technology

News has advanced immensely over the last few decades for example news started off with newspaper and it started off being printed and typed off by a typewriter which made newspapers very slow getting out. Whereas now news is on the internet, TV and still newspapers.
. TV
. Typewriters
. Newspapers
. Internet
. Fax machines
. Radio stations
Top 5 genres-
. War
. Gender
. Divorce (religion/love)
. Racism
. Class tension- workers rights

This front cover shows-

  • The statement 'we're very happy' said by jackie sounds very forced and not genuine
  • Theres also use of politics in this front cover from 'unions postpone strike' which shows us how different parts and politic groups were still not seeing eye to eye on certain things just like today
  • The front cover is in black and white showing how old and roughly what century it could've come from
