Th avengers exam style question

How was MEDIA LANGUAGE used to show the social context of the 1960's?

In the five minute extract of the avengers they use camera angles to produce a storyline, for example within the first few seconds it is a close up of a door bell with the writing 'Mrs Emma Peel' on it suggesting she is married within this scene there is a male who is John Steed (Mrs Peel's boss) ringing the door bell. They then pan and do a tilt shot to the eye on the door which is very 60's as the eye is very pop arty and the makeup on the eye is also very 60's orientated. After this they pan the angle to Mr Steed who is ringing the doorbell, Mr Steed is introduced by a low angle shot from the shoulders up which is making him have power and status, all the camera work i have discussed is a long take because they had no breaks within this scene. Once Mr Steed has been let into the woman's apartment Mrs Peel is introduced by a full shot looking down on her, this is suggesting how back in the 60's it was very male dominated. We then see the male and female fencing and within this we see the camera zoom into Mrs Peel's backside from Mr Steed's angle when he is sat down, this camera angle sexualises her.

The mise-en-scene is brought into this extract by the upper class right at the start when Mr Steed rings the doorbell because he rings it with the end of his umbrella, the end of his umbrella is made out of metal suggesting he is wealthy and upper class. Once Mr Steed is allowed into Mrs Peel's apartment we can know they are both spy's because of the reason Mr steed went to Mrs Peel's apartment although the fact that Mrs Peel is a spy and she's fencing could argue that they are trying to portray feminism within this scene because in the 60's there was hardly any woman's rights therefor The Avengers could be trying to show people woman do have rights. However Mrs Peel is in a very figure hugging outfit which is made out of leather which sexualises her and shows us how the 60's were very sex orientated. Throughout this clip you can see and feel a sexual chemistry between Mrs peel and Mr Steed by the way they were talking with sexual innuendos and how they were looking each other up and down. You can also see that the hair, makeup, fashion and furniture is very upper class British, the fashion Mr Steed was wearing was very upper class because he was wearing a Bowler hat with a waistcoat, posh trousers and shoes. Mrs Peel had her hair straight until the ends and then her hair flicked outwards at the ends which would've been a very upper class 60's hairstyle. As for the furniture in Mrs Peel's apartment it is very upper class British and extremely wealthy.

The sound within this extract is used a lot for example at the very start of the clip there was already non-diegetic sound. The next time sound was used was when Mr Steed was talking to Mrs Peel through the autocom and flirty non-diegetic music started playing suggesting that they were more than just friends. There was then a few diegetic sounds such as the doorbell and the eye opening with a high pitched sound. After this there was then non-diegetic music playing when he entered the apartment then the music goes up when Mr Steed  takes off his hat suggesting they're both excited that a piece of clothing is being taken off, then Mrs Peel takes off Mr Steed jacket then the non-diegetic sound goes back up suggesting the sexual tension. The last piece of non-diegetic sound is when Mr Steed taps Mrs Peel on the backside making a 'tap' sound.

The editing within the extract is that there is parrell editing happening right at the beginning.
